Historique :	Tableaux attribués lors du classement en 1910 à François Lemoyne (1688-1737). Ils sont depuis 1986 attribués à Nicolas Bertin (1667-1736) (Cf. Compain/Roquebert, Catalogue des Tableaux du Louvre, 1986). Ils appartiennent à un ensemble de 12 tableaux (quatre Evangélistes et huit figurant les pères de l’Eglise) peints par Bertin pour le couvent des Récollet de Versailles. Les oeuvres sont passées au musée des Récollet, puis à la disparition de celui-ci dans les magasins de Versailles puis du Louvre. Ils ont été identifiés par Anne Roquebert et Isabelle Compain.
